Ellia Smith and Nathan Hedge have taken out the 2021 Macro Mike Australian Open of Surfing Gold Coast Pro at Miami Beach.

Competitors were greeted with great conditions, with the waves providing plenty of opportunity for some of Australia’s best surfers to showcase their talent.

Ellia Smith

The Women’s final was won by Ellia Smith (COOLUM) with a combined two wave score of 14.83 (out of a possible 20.00). She beat Holly Williams (BUDDINA) (11.33), Jahly Stokes (BUDDINA) (9.94) and Brodie Doyle (COOLANGATTA) (8.17).

“The finals heat was a bit slow to start off with, but I got lots of waves and stayed busy. All the girls were ripping, it was nice that the wind dropped off, it definitely came good for the finals,” Smith said.

Nathan Hedge

The Men’s final was won by Nathan Hedges (PALM BEACH) with a combined two wave score of 13.00 (out of a possible 20.00). He beat Thomas Carvalho (COOLANGATTA) (10.70), Taj Stokes (BUDDINA) (10.20) and Marlon Harrison (COOLANGATTA) (10.10).

“I loved the opportunity to get the rash vest back on. Surfing the semis was the pick of the event for me, but it’s mind blowing to be still surfing at this level with these guys. Coming down with my daughter and my mum at age 42 is a dream!”
