SUNSHINE COAST, QUEENSLAND (Sunday, 7 June 2026) – Queensland’s top junior surfers put on an impressive display today at the Queensland Junior Surfing Titles Qualifier presented by We Are Feel Good Inc, with qualifiers and seeding positions now locked in for next weekend’s Queensland Junior & Grommet Surfing Titles Grand Final on the Gold Coast.
Despite difficult conditions throughout the day, Queensland’s best Under 16 and Under 18 surfers made the challenging surf look effortless, showcasing their talent and adaptability as they battled for valuable Grand Final positions and the opportunity to represent Queensland at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles.
The Under 16 Girls final saw Maddison Kenchington secure the top seed heading into the Grand Final after posting two excellent scores of 8.17 and 8.47 (out of a possible 10), the highest scores during the finals.
The Under 16 Boys competitors fought hard in the testing conditions, but it was Rayden Fukuda who emerged victorious ahead of Luca Martin, Bobby Patch and Ky Clements to claim the win.
Brisa Canina demonstrated patience and strategy in the Under 18 Girls final, winning a stacked heat despite catching the fewest waves of all competitors. Her selective approach paid dividends as she found the highest scoring opportunities when it mattered most.
The event concluded with the Under 18 Boys final, where Kai Alcala left it late to secure victory. Needing scores on his final two waves, Alcala delivered when it counted, including an exceptional aerial manoeuvre that helped him post the numbers required to claim the win.
With the Sunshine Coast qualifier complete, all eyes now turn to the Gold Coast, where Queensland’s best junior and grommet surfers will battle for state titles and the chance to earn selection in the Queensland Team for the Australian Junior Surfing Titles.
