Queensland’s next crop of future surfing stars are set to compete this weekend (24 – 25 September) in the third stop of the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comp Series presented by Ruffie on the Gold Coast.
Attracting 80 juniors, event three of the Woolworths Surfer Groms series will see fun and friendly surfing action from the under 8 parent-assist division all the way to the under 14 boys and girls divisions.
Under 14 Boys top seed and Gold Coast surfer, Caden Francis, said he can’t wait for another great weekend of competition, surfing at home and hanging out with friends.
“I’m stoked to go into this event as the top seed although it doesn’t really matter too much as the standard of surfing is always really high,” said Francis. “The forecast looks promising, so I’m looking forward to a fun weekend.”
Noosa Heads Surfer and top seed in the Under 14 Girls division, Eliza Richardson, is looking forward to competing on the Gold Coast this weekend with her twin sister and second seed, Rosie Richardson.
“The waves are always super fun on the Gold Coast,” said Richardson. “Rosie and I are both looking forward to coming down and hoping to do our best.”
About the 2022 Woolworths Surfer Groms Comp Series
Regarded as one of the major stepping stones in the development of young Australian surfers, the 10-event Woolworths Surfer Grom Comps series caters for surfers from Under 8 to Under 14 and will be held in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and South Australia over summer.
As an added bonus, the respective winners of the Under 14 boys’ and girls’ divisions from each event will receive an invite to attend an all-expenses-paid, three-day Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps National Final Surf Camp, (1-day coaching clinic, two days of competition and heat analysis coaching) at the Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC). For the South Australian, Victorian and Tasmanian events, the Woolworths Surf Camp prize will be awarded to the highest place Under-14 Boy and Girl who reside in that respective state.
