GOLD COAST, QUEENSLAND (15 March, 2023) – The next crop of future surfing stars are set to compete this weekend (18 – 19 March) in the Oceanside GromQuest. The competition will be a fun and friendly event for some of the best up-and-coming Under 16 surfers to gain valuable competition experience.

The inaugural event has generated buzz among the surfing community and is attracting more than 100 juniors to the Gold Coast, including an array of male and female surfers from Under 10 parent-assist divisions all the way to the Under 16 boys and girls divisions.

There will be plenty of prizes up for grabs for all competitors, including Oceanside electric bikes for the winners of blue ribbon Under 16 boys and girls divisions.

Surfing Queensland Event Manager, Elliot Dempster, said he’s proud to be hosting the inaugural Oceanside GromQuest and is looking forward to this event becoming a staple event on the surfing calendar.

“We created this event to provide more competition experience for young surfers to showcase their skills and and compete against their peers in a fun and supportive environment,” said Dempster.  “We’re stoked to have local Gold Coast company, Oceanside Electric Bikes onboard as the major partner for this event and we’re looking forward to putting on a fun weekend of surfing and activities for the groms.”

Oceanside Electric Bikes Brand Manager, Luke Boman, said he’s super excited to see the groms tearing it up this weekend at the GromQuest.

“The hype has been really positive and it’s going to be a great event for the Junior surfing community to get around,” said Boman. “A huge thanks must go out to all the Mum’s & Dad’s for supporting their kid’s development in surfing, to Surfing Queensland for organising the event and all the event sponsors for making this event all about giving back to the Groms! We are looking forward to keeping this one in the calendar.”

The primary location for this weekend’s event is Miami Beach, however due to variable swell conditions this is subject to change to ensure the best surfing conditions. Please call the Surfing Queensland event hotline on (07 3030 6388) after 6am on 18 & 19 March.
