Surfing Queensland is proud to announce the appointment of TV presenter and former competitive surfer Liz Cantor to its Board of Directors.

A trailblazer both in and out of the water, Liz brings a lifetime of experience in surfing, and over 20 years of working in media to the organisation.

Sponsored by Billabong, Liz has paddled out at renowned breaks across Fiji, Tahiti, Hawaii and Europe. Her deep understanding of the sport saw her become the first-ever female surf judge on the World Surf League (then ASP Tour), paving the way for women in competitive officiating.

While completing a Bachelor of Communication in Journalism, Liz worked as the manager of Billabong’s Girls Surf Team. In that role she looked after legends like Layne Beachley and recognised emerging talent, recruiting future stars Sally
Fitzgibbons and Laura Enever.

Today, Liz is a well-known and respected identity on Australian screens. Presenting the Weather for 10 News First Queensland Monday to Friday, and appearing on Channel 7’s Creek to Coast and Weekender…lifestyle shows in which she brings the same energy to her storytelling as she did to her surfing journey.

Surfing Queensland Chairperson Julian Blanchard said Liz’s unique blend of lived surf culture, strategic thinking and media savvy would be a tremendous asset to Surfing Queensland’s board.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Liz to the board,” he said.

“Liz’s connection to the surf community, her history of championing women in sport, and her communication skills will help guide our growth and impact in the years ahead.”

Liz joins Surfing Queensland’s current board members Julian Blanchard, Jeff Frazer, Paul Peterson, Erin Tanner and Roxanne Millar.

Liz said she was looking forward to continuing to play a role in the growth and development of surfing, and wants to see Queensland as the mecca for emerging talent globally. She is passionate about increasing female participation, both in and out of the water and increasing the number of female officials, judges and coaches in the sport.

“I’m incredibly proud to join the board of Surfing Queensland and continue contributing to a sport that has shaped so much of my life,” said Liz.

“The future of surfing is inclusive, and I’m excited to help make that a reality.”
