GOLD COAST, QUEENSLAND (Monday 30 June, 2025) – Finals Day is officially locked in at the Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp covered by Sun Bum, with Snapper Rocks turning on flawless winter conditions for an action-packed penultimate day. With glassy four-foot waves and long, consistent sets rolling down the point, competitors across all divisions rose to the occasion, locking in the highest scores of the event so far.
The standout performance of the day came from Locana Cullen, who earned the highest heat total of the event, a near-perfect 19.04 out of 20, thanks to a dynamic mix of powerful rail turns and a progressive aerial 360. His highest single wave score, a 9.87, has set the benchmark and gives him serious momentum heading into tomorrow’s finals.
The Under 18 Girls division delivered explosive heats in perfect Snapper conditions. Stella Green continued her consistent form to secure a finals berth, against Meika Locke, Olive Hardy, and ISA World Junior Champion Ziggy Mackenzie.
The Under 18 Boys Quarterfinals were stacked with the country’s best juniors. Ben Zanatta posted an excellent 9.77 ride to take the win, overcoming a tough field that included Kash Brown, Mitchell Peterson and Hunter Andersson in what was arguably one of the most competitive heats of the event.
The afternoon saw the iconic Occy and Friends heat hit the lineup to the delight of the crowd, bringing together surfing royalty including Joel ‘Parko’ Parkinson, Jay and Jonah Occhilupo, Jay Phillips, Dean ‘Dingo’ Morrison, Tom Carroll and of course, Occy himself.
Everyone was in excellent form, but it was Parko who got the wave of the heat, scoring a perfect 10 for a deep barrel from behind the rocks followed by a series of trademark, powerful turns. He went on to win the heat with a total of 19.30, narrowly edging out Occy, who finished in second after threading multiple set waves with his classic backhand style.
The afternoon saw the Under 12 Boys and Girls semi-finals wrap up the day in solid, clean conditions. The youngest age group pushed themselves to the limit, navigating long walls and late drops that would challenge even the most experienced surfers.
With champions set to be crowned tomorrow across all divisions from Under 12’s through to the marquee Under 18’s, the stage is perfectly set for a huge final day at Australia’s most prestigious junior surfing event.
