SUNSHINE COAST, QUEENSLAND (Friday, 4 April 2025) – Queensland’s best junior surfers took on clean 2 foot surf conditions at Ann St beach on the Sunshine Coast.

Featuring over 270 competitors, the six-day Parko’s Junior Pro pres. by Campbell Construction Co, is focused on helping groms sharpen their competitive skills in a range of surf conditions.

The event features divisions from Under 12 Boys and Girls through to the top-tier Under 18 Boys and Girls.

Joel “Parko” Parkinson dropped by to soak up all the surfing action at the very break where his professional career first began.

“I went to primary school just across the road, so surfing Ann St was an every afternoon event,” said Parko.

Ann St was where my surfing career started and when I fell in love with the sport. It has a lot of sentimental value to me and I am stoked to be back here running a junior event.”

With 10,000 points on the line, the junior surfers were performing at their peak, demonstrating textbook level surfing in fun yet challenging conditions.

The day started strong with the Under 18 boys, where standout surfer Murray Bamberry delivered a commanding performance to take the win over Joey ThompsonHarlan Tanko, and Archie Moore.

The Under 14 Boys saw Sunshine Coast local, Munay Hartley secure a narrow victory against Magnus Howell.

Day One concluded with a standout performance from Gold Coast surfer Luca Martin, who recorded an impressive heat total of 13.66 (out of a possible 20) — the highest heat score of the event so far.

The second day of Parko’s Junior Pro pres. by Campbell Construction Co will see the Under 16 Girls take to the water to vie for top spot.
