SUNSHINE COAST, QUEENSLAND (Sunday, 15 June 2025) – Event Two of the Queensland Junior Titles wrapped up today at Sunshine Beach, where pristine two-foot waves set the stage for the crowning of the overall Queensland Champions.
With classic Queensland winter conditions of light winds, the juniors fiercely competed for a State Title and a coveted spot in the 2025 Australian Junior Surfing Titles, to be held on the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia from 28 November – 5 December.
The first final of the day featured the Under 18 Boys going head-to-head in afternoon conditions that had increased in size. With Darcy Dwyer seeking to keep his momentum from his win last weekend in the first event of the series, he fought hard against elite surfers, Mitchell Peterson, Jai Nield and Will Martin.
Mitchell Peterson delivered a commanding performance to take the win, highlighted by a standout single wave score of 9.00 (out of a possible 10). Darcy Dwyer was crowned Queensland Champion, thanks to his consistent results and his second place finish in today’s final.
Brisa Canina delivered a strong performance in the Under 18 Girls final, claiming both the event victory and the title of Queensland Champion thanks to her impressive overall series results.
The final was an exciting spectacle and tightly contested, with top competitors Meika Locke, Stella Green, and Laney Stokes pushing the pace. Canina’s final two waves proved decisive, propelling her into the lead and securing the victory.
Luca Martin secured both the event win and the overall Queensland Title in an exciting final showdown against Harrison Gibbs, Cooper Rielly, and Zac Johnston, who finished second, third, and fourth respectively.
In the Under 16 Girls final, twin sisters Eliza and Rosie Richardson both put on a clinic, with Rosie securing the win in the final for the second year in a row and Eliza being crowned the overall Queensland Champion based on her series performance.
Eliza Richardson has claimed back-to-back Queensland Titles, highlighting her determination and competitive spirit.
The results of Event 1 and Event 2 were combined together to decide the Queensland Champions for each division.
Event 2 of the Queensland Grommet Titles is set to highlight the Under 12 and Under 14 divisions next weekend on the Gold Coast, from 21–22 June, marking the final event of the series.
