Queensland Junior Surfing Team Descend on North Stradbroke Island for the Woolworths Australian Junior Surfing Titles

GOLD COAST, QUEENSLAND (24 November, 2022) – Queensland Junior Surfing team are set to descend on North Stradbroke Island for the Woolworths Australian Junior Surfing Titles, 26 November – 3 December.

45 of Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast top junior surfers will be competing at the seven-day event, vying for an Australian Title across divisions including – Under 14, 16 and 18 age groups along with Allstars and MR Shield School Divisions.

Surfing Queensland is looking forward to hosting 180 athletes at North Stradbroke Island.

Queensland’s Junior Surfing Team Head Coach, Tim Just, said he’s been training the State Team all year through the Surfing Queensland Academy (SQA) and feels they’re in a great position to claim Australian Titles.

“We’ve been running training sessions at North Stradbroke Island the past few months in the lead up to the Australian Titles through the SQA program, so we’ve done all we can to get the team prepared,” said Just.

“The standard of junior surfing is at the highest level we’ve ever seen, so there’s going to be plenty of tough competition. However, I’m feeling super confident in the QLD team as it’s probably the strongest team we’ve had in years. There’s a lot on the line for the surfers, so it’s going to be epic to watch them put all their practice in action.”

Winners of the U16 & U18 Junior men and women will earn a spot in the Irukanjis team to represent Australia at the ISA World Junior Championships.

This is a mobile event with numerous options available within a close proximity including Cylinders Beach and Point, Deadmans Beach and Main Beach. Please call the Surfing Queensland event hotline (07 3030 6388) daily for the confirmed event location.
