Queensland’s Top Grommets Battle for State Titles on the Sunshine Coast

SUNSHINE COAST, QUEENSLAND (Sunday, 1 June 2025) – Queensland’s best grommet surfers brought the heat today for Event One of the 2025 Queensland Grommet Surfing Titles. The champions were decided in excellent conditions at Alex Skate Park Beach with offshore winds and fun 3-foot surf.

It was a day of all-time matchups as we saw Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast’s best grommet surfers battle it out for a Queensland Title and a position at the 2025 Australian Junior Surfing Titles set to land on the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia.

The Under 12 Girls Division was the first final to hit the water, with standout performer Sage Fleming taking out the title in a highly competitive heat in difficult afternoon conditions. Fleming delivered a dominant performance, finishing with double the points of runner-up Kobi Lana Partridge.

Flynn Swierczewski secured a narrow victory in the Under 12 Boys final against Zeph BartlettKuba Crompton and Ollie Sharpe. Swierczewski scored a 7.93 (out of a possible 10) in the final minute of the heat, making him the champion of the first Queensland Grommet Surfing Titles event of the series.

Navah Holmes claimed victory in a challenging final as conditions turned heavy and hollow. The Under 14 Girls showcased an impressive level of surfing, and Holmes is now looking ahead to competing again at the second grommet event on the Gold Coast.

The day concluded with an electrifying final that highlighted the outstanding talent of the Under 14 Boys. Brandon Davidson emerged victorious in a stacked heat, going up against Tully CromptonJaxxon Sands, and Sonny Brooke.

The grom competitors will now head to the Gold Coast on the 21-22 June, and their results from the two competitions will be added together to determine the overall series winners and State Champions.
