Red Bull Foam Wreckers: Burleigh Heads Blitz

Published on 28/11/2023

Burleigh Heads came alive today for the Red Bull Foam Wreckers, the anti-surf contest where competitors must spin the ‘Wheel of Shred’ to determine which Catch Surf soft-board (foamie) they’ll ride. The wobbly but fun 1-2 foot conditions proved no obstacle for the Foam Wrecker frothers and drew an array of spectators to watch the action unfold.

This was the second time Red Bull Foam Wreckers was held on the Gold Coast. Traditional surf contest rules were outlawed in favour of creativity. Anyone could compete in this event, with waves judged on uniqueness, style, and who was having the most fun.

The day attracted almost 100 competitors, including Red Bull athletes: Jack RobinsonCory Teunissen and Travis Boak. While the World Tour surfer, Jack Robinson, delivered a textbook display of technical ability in the expression session, it was Jimmy Dean who won the judges over with his unique and expressive style.

Burleigh Heads local, Maddy Job, took the crown as the winner of the Red Bull Foam Wreckers. Runner up was Sean Gunning and third place was Diego Cordeiro.

Maddy Job was thrilled to come away with the win but more importantly, he commented on how exciting the competition was.

“I thought the competition would be super difficult, given that we had to only use foamies” said Job. “But it turned out to be a really fun comp and I am stoked to come away with the win!”

After the presentation, the eager fun-loving competitors made their way over to Naami Bar to celebrate a great day of foamies, froth and fun.

ABOUT RED BULL FOAM WRECKERS

Welcome to Red Bull Foam Wreckers, the anti-surf contest with one very simple requirement: you must ride a soft-top (foamie) surfboard. That’s pretty much it, the rest is up to you! Catch as many waves as you want, and ride them however you’d like, your goal is to have more fun than everybody else! We’ve even partnered with Catch Surf to provide soft boards for you to use, so all you need to bring down to the beach on event day is yourself.

Before your heat you will spin the “Wheel of Shred” to determine which soft-board model you’re going to rip on. You’ll paddle out with up to 8 of your closest (new) friends all on different soft-boards and proceed to stake your claim as the most “unique” soft-board surfer!

You never know what our “professional” judges might be looking for, they all have their personal preferences that they’ll share before you paddle out, the key is to be creative, think outside the box and have fun!
