Shortboard Masters and Kneeboard Champions Crowned on Sunshine Coast

SUNSHINE COAST, QUEENSLAND (Monday, 26 May 2025) – Ann St, Currimundi facilitated a surfing masterclass today as the Shortboard Masters and Kneeboarders hit the waves, vying for the coveted Queensland Title and a spot at the National Surfing Titles.

Ann St provided the ideal playground for the seasoned surfers, with three foot swell on offer for the 21 divisions to showcase their mastery of the sport.

The competition was intense and exciting, with surfers from all over the state battling it out in the various divisions ranging from Over 30 to Over 65.

Serena Brooke secured victory in the Over 40 Women’s Shortboard division, marking her first appearance at the State Titles in over 30 years.

She expressed her excitement about representing Queensland, following her impressive second-place finish at the ISA World Masters Surfing Championships last year.

“It was so good coming and competing at the State Titles and I am looking forward to surfing for Queensland at Nationals,” said Brooke.

“I am honestly such an amateur because I didn’t even know you could enter two divisions! It’s been 33 years since I last competed in a Queensland Title, so I’m really glad I decided to enter this year.”

Terry Landsberg showcased his outstanding form by claiming victories in both the Over 55 and Over 60 Men’s divisions.

Landsberg was thoroughly impressed by the level of talent across all divisions and is eagerly looking forward to competing in the National Titles alongside his mates.

“It is so inspirational to see the talent on display these past two days,” said Landsberg.

“Across all divisions, it was great to see everyone out there absolutely ripping! Usually we don’t get conditions this good, so it was very enjoyable to surf waves with excellent scoring potential. I’m heading out for another surf as soon as this wraps up!”

Tomorrow will see the Stand-Up Paddle Board (SUP) divisions hit the water for the fourth day of competition. The swell is expected to continue tomorrow, with similar conditions to the previous three days. The Queensland Surf Championships is a mobile event on the Sunshine Coast.
