Shortboard Open Winners Decided at the Queensland Surf Championships

SUNSHINE COAST, QUEENSLAND (Saturday, 24 May 2025) – Sarah Young and Tim Bain delivered standout performances in the Open division, claiming the Queensland State Titles and earning their place at the Australian Surf Championships.

The blue-ribbon divisions lived up to their expectations, with surfers putting on an excellent display of surfing, laying it all on the line for the top spot. 

S-Bends Kawana provided perfect conditions for the premier surf discipline to showcase their skills, with clean four-foot swells kicking off the Queensland Surf Championships.

Sarah Young was the first victor to be crowned in the four-person final, with Young securing a strong lead with only three waves caught during the 20-minute Final.

Young along with Gisele SinclairGiorgia Lorentson and Ellie Graydon will represent Queensland at the Australian Shortboard Titles to be held from 26-31 August in Wollongong, NSW.

The highly anticipated Open Mens final saw Tim Bain claim victory against fierce competitors Jye Pegg, Zane Jenner and Zukas Loining. Bain and Pegg both delivered standout performances during the event, setting the stage for a final that didn’t disappoint.

All four finalists from both the Open Men and Women divisions will be competing in the Australian National Surfing Titles to be held in Wollongong, NSW, from 26-31 August.

Today marks the beginning of the 2025 Queensland Surf Championships on the Sunshine Coast. The Queensland Teams will be decided over the next five days with disciplines including, SUP, Kneeboard, Longboard, Masters Shortboard and Open Shortboard.
