Sunshine Coast to Host Woolworths Surfer Groms Series Finale

Published on 08/12/2020

Sunshine Coast, Queensland (Tuesday, 8th December, 2020) Queensland’s next generation of surfing superstars are set to compete in this weekend’s Woolworths Surfer Groms Comp on the Sunshine Coast.

Attracting over 80 frothing grommets, event ten of the Woolworths Surfer Groms series will see fun and friendly surfing action from under 8 parent assist all the way through to the under 14 boys and girls divisions.

With rapidly rising swell and moderate winds predicted, event organisers will seek a sheltered beach on the Sunshine Coast to offer a safe and fun environment for the competitors.

Headlining the under 14 boys division is Rico Haybittle (Burleigh Heads), Caden Francis (Palm Beach), Landen Smales (Peregian Beach) and Hunter Andersson (Moffat Beach), who will be pushing the limits of grom surfing after strong performances at the Gold Coast event.

Other exciting match ups to keep an eye on include the under 12 male duo of Max Mcgillivray (Evans Head) and Lucas Deffenti (Miami) who both surf well beyond their years.

The under 14 girls will feature stand out performers Oli Taylor (Peregian Beach), Jordy Halford (Currumbin), Ocea Curtis (Lennox Head) and Ava Arghyros (Kingscliff) meanwhile the under 12 girls will see the Gold Coast podium of Roxanne Cameron (Burleigh Heads), Pipi Taylor (Peregian Beach) and Kauri Hewston Connor (Burleigh Heads) aiming for an event win.

The weekends heat draw and schedule (which is always subject to change) will be made available on Thursday at 2pm and can be viewed on both live heats and the Surfing Queensland website.

The Woolworths Surfer Groms event is mobile on the Sunshine Coast with competitors encouraged to call the event hotline (07 3030 6388) each morning of the event to determine the official location and running schedule.
