YETI Australian Junior Online Surf Championships To Replace Traditional Titles In 2020

The 2020 YETI Australian Junior Online Surf Championships are set to give the country’s best junior talent a platform to compete for individual honours and state pride after Surfing Australia today announced the cancellation of the 2020 Surf Dive n’ Ski Australian Junior Surfing Titles which were scheduled to run from November 28th, 2020 on North Stradbroke Island due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation.
Running over three-two week video submission rounds, the invitation-only YETI Australian Junior Online Surf Championships boasts over $30,000 in prizes up for grabs. The grand prize for all winners is a $1,000 filming budget and a professionally made individual video edit as well as 3 x social clips made by The Surfing Australia mySURFtv crew. Each social clip will be posted on Surfing Australia’s social channels and given to the recipients.
As an added bonus to the event none-other-than three-time World Surf League (WSL) World Champion and YETI ambassador Mick Fanning will feature in each round’s recaps as well announce the winners of the competition on December 10, 2020.
Clayton Anderson,YETI Senior Brand Manager, Australia & New Zealand said: “The team at YETI are excited about this new format that will allow all juniors surfers, who have had successful results at state titles, to compete as they intended. Surfing Australia has done an amazing job adjusting to the current travel restrictions; moving the competition to an online format will provide all juniors with the opportunity to showcase their surfing talents.”
Head Olympic judge Glen Elliott will lead a three-person panel with Olympic Judge and dual Women’s World Longboard Champion (WSL/ISA) Tory Gilkerson and WSL WT Judge Ty Conaghan in officiating what is expected to be upwards of 160 entrants across the seven-week competition window.
The Championship will use the Clippero online platform for competitor submissions and judging throughout the competition period, allowing simple, easy to follow upload instructions. Surfing Australia’s National Titles schedule has been subject to change in the current COVID-19 environment, and with the safety of all involved at the forefront of any decision, the call was made to cancel the 2020 Surf Dive n’ Ski  Australian Junior Surfing Titles this year.
The traditional Australian Junior Surfing Titles will return to Queensland in 2021.
