SUNSHINE COAST, QUEENSLAND (Sunday 10 December 2023) – The emerging junior surfers from Queensland took on the substantial waves at Coolum Beach for the concluding event in the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series. The young surfers encountered Cyclone Jasper, which brought upon challenging conditions for the finals, ushering in 3-4ft of northerly swell.
Event 10 of the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series delivered action-packed surfing, from the best juniors around the country. Divisions start all the way from the Under 8 Parent-Assist, up to the Under 14 Boys & Girls .
Savannah Rielly claimed victory in the Under 14 Girls final with an excellent heat total of 15.76, securing her spot in the National Final at the Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC). She was shortly followed by her brother, Cooper Rielly who finished first in the Under 14 Boys Final.
The Rielly siblings both commented on how enjoyable the event was and thanked the supporting partners and their sponsors.
“It was a great event and I am looking forward to the coaching clinic and training at the HPC,” said Savannah Rielly.
“I want to thank my parents, my friends and sponsors, as well as Surfing Australia and the team at Surfing Queensland for the awesome event! Keen for the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps next year,” added Cooper Rielly.
The day commenced with the Under 10 Girls, as heat winner Kobi Lana Partridge set the tone for finals day by scoring a 9.43 on her first wave. The Under 10 Boys matched the vibe with Flynn Swierczewski scoring a 9.50 in the fourth heat of the morning.
The finals started with Austin Reynolds securing victory in the Under 8 Boys & Girls Mixed Division. Eliana Tabacaru then got the win against Kobi Lana Partridge in the Under 10 Girls final. The Under 10 Boys saw Flynn Swierczewski finish in first place in a close heat against fierce competition.
In the Under 12 Girls, Navah Holmes won with a significant lead and Sunny Canina followed suit in the Under 12 Boys final with a dominating performance.
Flynn Swierczewski won the “Le Breakthrough” award on behalf of Le Tan, for surfing without a parent in the Under 8 Parent-assist Division.
The final event of the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps in the Sunshine Coast was the perfect finale to an exhilarating 2023 series.

About Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps Series
Regarded as one of the major stepping stones in the development of young Australian surfers, the 10-event Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series caters for surfers from Under 8 to Under 14 and will be held in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and South Australia over summer.
As an added bonus, the respective winners of the Under 14 boys’ and girls’ divisions from each event will receive an invite to attend an all-expenses-paid, three-day Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps National Final Surf Camp, (1-day coaching clinic, two days of competition and heat analysis coaching) at the Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC). For the South Australian, Victorian and Tasmanian events, the Woolworths Surf Camp prize will be awarded to the highest place Under-14 Boy and Girl who reside in that respective state.
