Surfing Queensland to Host Golf Day Fundraiser

Published on 05/04/2023

Surfing Queensland will host an inaugural golf day on Friday 12 May, with the primary purpose to fundraise for the Surfing Queensland Academy (SQA) junior high performance program. SQA, established in 2022, was created to provide skills, opportunities and pathways for the top junior surfers in Queensland.

Just one year after launching the program, the SQA saw success, with the Queensland Junior State Team displaying their mastery of surfing at the 2022 Woolworths Australian Junior Titles. Queensland was crowned the overall champions, winning by the biggest margin seen in the Australian Junior Titles in 22 years.

The Inaugural Surfing Queensland Golf Day, taking place at RACV Royal Pines Golf Course, will feature a plethora of reputable industry brands, who have offered their support to Queensland’s upcoming elite junior surfers. The range of industry supporters will be hosting brand activations on the course, with fun activities and challenges for all players encouraged to get involved with to fundraise for the SQA.

Surfing Queensland Chief Executive Officer, Adam Yates, said Surfing Queensland is thrilled to have had an incredible response from industry partners coming onboard to support the up-and-coming pool of junior talent.

“The establishment of the SQA program has increased the ability of our young surfers exponentially, which was evident at the 2022 Australian Junior Titles. This event will further bolster the talent of our junior surfers by enabling Surfing Queensland to enhance the program and best equip our surfers by providing them with the opportunity, pathway and resources to reach their full potential as elite athletes.”

Competitors will be playing in Ambrose style format, in teams of four. All players will receive a welcome pack, on-course food, ice cold beverages, post-game catered lunch and the opportunity to purchase tickets in our prize stacked raffle and silent auction.
