Miami Beach on the Gold Coast came alive today as seven individual champions were crowned at the third stop of the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comp Series presented by Ruffie.
It was another glorious spring day with plenty of waves on offer for the under 8 parent-assist division all the way to the under 14 boys and girls divisions.
The conditions were favourable in the morning with little to no wind and peaks all the way down the beach, creating a dream scenario to kick off finals day. The wind increased as the day rolled on which proved no obstacle for the under 14 talent.
8-year-old, Hawaiian born Australian, Zoe Bradshaw (USA) dominated both the Under 10 and Under 12 girls divisions, surfing well beyond her years and claiming two wins. She beat Charlotte Rielly (Dicky Beach), MillerMay Berg (Miami) and Evie Wilson (Marcus Beach).
The Under 12 Boys Division was taken out by current Under 12 QLD Champion Zac Johnston (Currimundi), defeating Ky Clements (Coolum Beach), Harrison Gibbs (Golden Beach)and Sonny Brooke (Marcus Beach).
The Under 14 Girls Division was won by Rosie Richardson (Sunshine Beach) ahead of her twin sister, Eliza Richardson (Sunshine Beach). Third place went to Samantha Arderne (Tugun) and fourth, Kanon Takahashi (Coolangatta).
“I’m so happy to win today,” said Richardson.“Extra stoked to get the win over Eliza today as she got me at the last comp.”
Undeniable event standout, Caden Francis (Palm Beach) took top honours in the Under 14 boys division, scoring a perfect 10-point ride in his semi final and maintaining the consistency throughout the final. He overcame Henry Dowling (Sunrise Beach), Jesse Fergusson (Sunshine Beach) and Hayden Danswan (Peregian Springs) respectively.
“It was such dreamy conditions this morning,” said Francis. “I’m super stoked to take the win today, all the boys were ripping and we were just enjoying the fun conditions on offer.”
The Woolworths Fresh Move Award went to Zoe Bradshaw and Gabriel Kenchington for their outstanding performance and sportsmanship shown during the event.
