Gold Coast, Queensland (Tuesday, 17th November, 2020) Queensland’s next generation of surfing superstars are set to compete in this weekend’s Woolworths Surfer Groms Comp on the Gold Coast.
Attracting over 80 frothing grommets, event nine of the Woolworths Surfer Groms series will see fun and friendly surfing action from under 8 parent assist all the way through to the under 14 boys and girls divisions.
With 2-3 feet of easterly swell and light winds predicted, this weekend is shaping up to be an awesome playground for Queensland’s best junior surfers.
Headlining the Under 14 boys division, Rico Haybittle (Burleigh Heads) and Landen Smales (Peregian Beach) will go head to head after finishing first and second respectively in the 2020 Queensland Titles.
“I had so much fun competing against Rico and the other boys at the QLD Titles. We all really pushed each other’s surfing. Rico beat me on a countback after the two events so I am really excited to get to surf and compete against him again as well as all of the other awesome surfers in our division.”
Under 14 QLD Champion Jordy Halford (Currumbin) is in great form after placing second in the MNM Critter Comp on Saturday.
“I was stoked to get second at the MNM Critter Comp on the weekend and I really enjoyed surfing against the older girls. I am looking forward to surfing again this weekend, the Woolworths Surfer Grom Comps are always so much fun.”
Other exciting match ups to keep an eye on include the under 12 male duo of Hunter Andersson (Moffat Beach) and Lucas Deffenti (Miami) who both surf well beyond their years while the under 12 girls will feature the QLD podium of Laney Stokes (Buddina), Pipi Taylor (Peregian Beach), Kauri Hewston Connor (Burleigh Heads) and Roxanne Cameron (Burleigh Heads).
The weekends heat draw will be made available on Thursday and can be viewed on both live heats and the Surfing Queensland website.
